Amylin is a peptide hormone co-secreted with insulin by the pancreatic beta cells and plays an important role in regulating blood glucose levels. It helps slow gastric emptying, suppress post-meal glucagon secretion, and promote feelings of satiety, all of which work together to prevent excessive spikes in blood sugar after eating. When amylin production or function is impaired—as often occurs in diabetes—these regulatory processes are disrupted, contributing to challenges in glucose control. Studying amylin is therefore crucial for understanding metabolic regulation and developing therapies for diabetes and related disorders.
