T-47D is a well-characterized human breast ductal carcinoma cell line derived from the pleural effusion of a patient with invasive ductal carcinoma. As a luminal A breast cancer model, T-47D cells express estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), progesterone receptor (PR), and low levels of HER2, making them a widely used in vitro model for studying hormone-responsive breast cancer biology.
T-47D cells retain functional estrogen and progesterone signaling pathways and exhibit robust responses to steroid hormones and endocrine therapies. These characteristics make them particularly valuable for investigating hormone receptor signaling, transcriptional regulation, cell proliferation, drug resistance, and therapeutic responses. In addition, T-47D cells have been extensively utilized to study PI3K/AKT signaling, apoptosis, cell cycle regulation, and interactions between hormonal and growth factor signaling pathways.
Due to their stable growth characteristics and reproducible responses, T-47D cells are commonly used in oncology research, high-throughput drug screening, and the development of reporter cell lines for nuclear receptor and transcription factor signaling.
