IL-15 is a pleiotropic cytokine that is important for both innate and adaptive immune cell homeostasis, as well as peripheral immune function. It plays an important role in the development and the survival of the NK cell lineage. It also plays a role in peripheral immune functions such as T lymphocyte trafficking, innate immune IFNγ production, and host defense against infectious pathogens.
