Biological function
IRP2 complements IRP1 in maintaining iron homeostasis. It is particularly important in tissues where IRP1 is less active and is regulated by iron-dependent degradation.
Binding property
IRP2 binds the same IRE stem-loop motif as IRP1, with similar structural requirements but distinct expression and regulatory dynamics.
Assay notes
Uses a structured, biotinylated IRE hairpin RNA. Differentiation between IRP1 and IRP2 can be achieved using specific antibodies or knockdown lines.
