Biological function

IRP2 complements IRP1 in maintaining iron homeostasis. It is particularly important in tissues where IRP1 is less active and is regulated by iron-dependent degradation.

Binding property

IRP2 binds the same IRE stem-loop motif as IRP1, with similar structural requirements but distinct expression and regulatory dynamics.

Assay notes

Uses a structured, biotinylated IRE hairpin RNA. Differentiation between IRP1 and IRP2 can be achieved using specific antibodies or knockdown lines.
