Biological function
TDP-43 is an RNA-binding protein central to RNA processing in neurons and is pathologically aggregated in ALS and frontotemporal dementia. It regulates splicing, RNA stability, and transport.
Binding property
TDP-43 binds UG-rich tracts, especially repeated UG dinucleotides in introns and 3′UTRs. Binding can influence exon inclusion and RNA turnover.
Assay notes
Includes a UG-repeat–containing RNA probe. Can be used to monitor TDP-43 binding activity under disease-relevant conditions or compound treatment.
