Biological function
SLBP binds the 3′ end of replication-dependent histone mRNAs, which lack poly(A) tails, and coordinates their processing, export, translation, and degradation during the cell cycle.
 
Binding property
SLBP recognizes the conserved histone 3′ stem-loop, a structured 26-nt RNA hairpin at the end of histone mRNAs. Binding requires the correct stem-loop architecture.
 
Assay notes
Includes a biotin-labeled histone stem-loop RNA that folds into the native hairpin. Ideal for studying histone mRNA metabolism and cell-cycle–dependent regulation.
