Cancer cells can lead to abnormal cytokine production that promotes growth, attenuates apoptosis, and facilitates invasion and metastasis. Clinical studies have revealed that cancer patients often experience immunostimulation and immunosuppression at the same time with different cytokine expression patterns. The expression patterns are closely associated with cancer origin and pathological grades and stages.
